David Katz, JD, PhD.

David is the co-founder and CEO of Deep Surface AI, which makes 3D simulation software for pre-op facial plastic surgery patient consultations. He advises startups as part of the AltoSante venture studio, Innovate Calgary Expert Advisor program, and at Platform Calgary. David brings a diverse background to his advisory relationships. As an attorney (NYU), he represented clients in corporate transactions (venture capital, M&A, JV, IPO) and health care law. As a PhD (UC Davis) and postdoctoral fellow (U Calgary), he developed expertise in the application of multivariate statistical models to evolutionary quantitative genetics and biomedical research questions. He is also an Innovate Calgary Life Sciences Fellowship alumnus, has won a national writing award, and worked as an investment banker. As a startup advisor, David’s passion lies at the intersection of storytelling and strategy – working with founders on the hard task of crystallizing a big idea into a plan, distilling that vision into compelling narratives for investors, non-dilutive funding opportunities, and employees.
