We’re thrilled to announce the lineup for AgTech 6×6, as part of Innovation Week YYC. On November 19, these six visionary University of Calgary-affiliated #AgTech startups will each present their breakthrough ideas in just six minutes, focusing on sustainable farming, precision agriculture, and transformative AgTech solutions:
1. Logan Skori, Ph.D., CEO at AgGene — AgGene develops cutting-edge plant traits that tackle today’s toughest crop production challenges.
2. Apostol Radev, CEO, SolarSteam Inc. — SolarSteam’s technology harnesses lightweight curved mirrors to concentrate solar energy, generating steam or hot water for industrial, agricultural, and space heating and cooling applications.
3. Kathryn Wolfe, CEO at Chromasense Technologies Inc. — Chromasense develops ultra-low-cost freshness indicators for “smart food packaging,” providing real-time quality and storage data to prevent food-borne illnesses and reduce waste.
4. Andrew Hui, CTO at Ferma Farms — Ferma Farms creates sustainable ingredients by fermenting agri-food side streams, offering scalable solutions that meet customers’ sustainability and nutritional needs.
5. Luiz Di Grado, Co-Founder at Munitora — Munitora equips farmers with advanced IoT hardware and comprehensive software services to optimize livestock operations.
6. Paul Galpern, Co-Lead at PPSN — The Prairie Precision Sustainability Network (PPSN) uses grower data and satellite imagery to predict and restore low-production areas within fields for improved sustainability.
AgTech 6×6 is hosted by the University of Calgary and powered by Innovate Calgary and the Centre for Precision Agriculture and Sustainability (#CPAS), with CDL-Rockies as the event’s MC. This your chance to see how Alberta’s own innovators are advancing the future of agriculture.
Supporting Partners:
Innovate Calgary is the innovation transfer and business incubator center for the University of Calgary. As part of the Office of the Vice?President (Research) portfolio and as a member of the UCalgary innovation ecosystem, we work closely with researchers, faculty, and students to help bridge the gap between discovery and creating economic and societal impact. We do this by going beyond traditional technology transfer services to include focused startup support programs and services for research-intensive companies.
Centre for Precision Agriculture and Sustainability (CPAS) pioneers innovative solutions and promotes sustainable agriculture through collaborative efforts between researchers, communities, and industry leaders, shaping the future of farming and environmental stewardship.
CDL-Rockies helps early-stage, deep science and technology innovations break through barriers and achieve their full commercial potential. Accomplished entrepreneurs and renowned scientists are selected to mentor promising founders. These curated teams are situated in one of three programs (Nurture, CDL, Haskayne ScaleUp) and innovations are stress-tested through the corresponding program’s framework. The CDL-Rockies program is home to a Prime stream as well as two specialized streams: Energy and AgriFood. Since CDL-Rockies launched in 2017, the program has supported 383 ventures, and graduates have created over 2,100 jobs and raised $2.3B in capital, resulting in $6.7B in equity value creation.
