Are you developing an innovation to a compelling health or life sciences problem with high growth potential? Let us help you get off on the right path with LSF Kickstart, which supports and nurtures innovators who are driven to be successful founders of a life sciences startup. This 6-month intensive program offers:

  • Up to $50,000 in funding to allocate to salary support and R&D
  • Paid access to the Life Sciences Innovation Hub, which provides the infrastructure, equipment, expertise, and startup support services you need to bring your innovation to market.
  • Targeted professional development, focused on:
    • Strong teams
    • Robust governance and IP protection
    • Market definition & validation + value proposition

The LSF Kickstart program will accelerate your progress and level up your company to make a strong application to future rounds of Life Sciences Fellowship.

Eligibility

Founder Requirements:

  • The program will support and fund up to two founders per company. Founders must be current Alberta residents who are legally able to work in Canada
  • The core technology does not need to originate from University of Calgary; both technology and team can originate from anywhere
  • Participants must be founding members of their startup and must own a significant equity fraction. Contact us for more information
  • Participants must have advanced knowledge and deep technical expertise in a life science-related field (typically MSc or above) and be driven to build their entrepreneurial skills and lead company development and growth

Startup Requirements:

  • Startups do not need to be incorporated to apply but will need to incorporate to participate. We can help with that! Contact us for more information.
  • Startups need to maintain an Alberta business address and a presence at the Life Sciences Innovation Hub once admitted.

 

How to apply

Recruitment

  • July 1: Application Portal Opens 

Selection

  • Rolling intake: Online applications will be evaluated in the order received. 
  • Competitive applicants will be invited to a pitch interview. 
  • August 15: Application Portal Closes

Onboarding

  • September 15: Successful applicants will take part in a Welcome social to kick start the program and meet their cohort
