Dr. Edward McCauley is an internationally-recognized scholar with a distinguished career as a leader in developing innovative, interdisciplinary research centres, partnerships and projects. He is one of the world’s foremost researchers in the field of population ecology, with a particular focus on water issues. He was a professor in Biological Sciences from 1985 to 2009 at the University of Calgary, and returned to the University following his role as Director of the prestigious National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). He is also a professor in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology at UCSB.
The recipient of numerous research awards and accolades, Dr. McCauley is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, a former Tier 1 Canada Research Chair, and has held several distinguished visiting international professorships in Germany, Sweden, Norway, the U.K. and most recently the “Le Studium International Professorship” at the Institute for Advanced Studies in France.
Dr. McCauley has a track record of cultivating broad-based, long-term national and international relationships with industry, community, and government. He was a founding Co-Director of the Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Water Research, as well as the Project Leader and Principal Investigator for the Advancing Canada’s Wastewater Assets (ACWA) Project.
